About The Author

Ron Sutton was born in Eltham, London in 1936, during a time of war and uncertainty, but his life became a story of strength, resilience, and adventure. From humble beginnings in a Victorian terrace house in Plumstead, Ron's childhood was shaped by the aftermath of World War II, a deep fascination with flight, and a longing to soar beyond limits.

His dream of flying took root as a sickly young boy captivated by paper airplanes and warplanes roaring overhead. That passion became a lifelong pursuit, leading Ron to serve in the British military’s elite airborne forces and later become a glider pilot and instructor, eventually flying across the skies of the UK and the United States.

Ron’s life reads like an adventure novel from military service in Cyprus and Suez, to teaching cadets in the UK, landing gliders in American prison yards and desert airstrips, and even navigating hurricanes in Florida. Along the way, he raised a family, followed his dreams, faced personal loss, and built a legacy defined by courage, wit, and a deep sense of authenticity.

For many years, Ron also dedicated his time and skills to helping others experience the freedom of flight. At Van Sant Airport in Pennsylvania, he worked with Freedom’s Wings, an organization devoted to training handicapped veterans and people with disabilities to fly gliders. It was work that combined his love of aviation with a commitment to serve and uplift others, offering hope and exhilaration to those who had often been told what they couldn’t do.

Now living in Florida, Ron shares his story not to seek praise, but to offer a glimpse into a life lived fully through storms, skies, and soul-searching moments. His writing is honest, unsentimental, and rich with the quiet wisdom of someone who has truly seen the world from both above and within.
